Dental Hygienist / GDC Number: 220828

Sima has been a Dental Hygienist for nearly 10 years. She has been working at Ruislip Dental care for 7 years. Her role includes carrying out scale and polishes, periodontal treatment (non surgical), administration of analgesics, whitening treatment and pocket charting, taking medical histories and undertaking indices.

Sima trained at Barts and the London Queen Mary’s University and graduated in 2011. Her training involved the theory regarding anatomy, chemistry and dental materials. A large portion of her training was practical whereby she would treat patients on a daily basis at clinics under supervision and practice in labs for restorative work. This opportunity enabled her to understand the role of a hygienist and how it would be to treat patients in the real world. It is also beneficial for patients as clinicians we already have the knowledge and experience treating patients from the beginning.

Sima's expertise is periodontal disease, she specialises in different types of periodontal disease and treating the disease. She reads research papers, attends conferences and continues professional development around the subject. Sima enjoys this area of dentistry because every individual is different and presents with varying periodontal diseases which have to be treated according to each individual. She treats her patients regularly and therefore gets to know them and build up a rapport with them. Sima appreciates the job she does because patients come back to her as they like the way she treats them.

Sima was awarded the prestigious Old Londoner’s Award in 2011 for the most supportive dental student in her year. She has also volunteered for charities in India and Africa carrying out dental treatment. She went to Sierra Leone and treated hundreds of people with varying dental problems and educated children in schools regarding good oral health and dental education.

Sima believes it is important to work well within a team. She enjoys working with her dental team from receptionists to dentists and nurses. Work cannot be successful without a teams effort.

Outside of work Sima enjoys the gym, yoga and tennis. She loves reading crime genre books, and has a keen interest in psychology and cooking and enjoys watching movies.
