Is a dental crown the right solution for me?

Dental crowns offer a strong and reliable solution to a number of issues. If you have a damaged tooth that would benefit from restoration, a crown is often the most effective treatment solution. A dental crown may also be recommended for a weak or broken tooth that requires protection, or even an unsightly filling or a stained tooth that would look aesthetically better covered. Dental crowns are also used for dental implants as well as providing support for dental bridges.

Dental crown treatment

If a dental crown favoured, before placement our dentist will need to carefully prepare the affected tooth. This preparation will involve re-contouring the tooth and removing a small amount of enamel to provide space for the crown to fit.

Once the preparatory work is complete, our dentist will then take an impression. This mould will then be sent to a laboratory where a dental technician will use the impression to skilfully create the new crown. The treatment process usually requires two appointments so until the crown is ready, our dentist will protect the prepared tooth by placing a temporary crown over it.

When revisiting the practice for the second appointment, our dentist will then carefully place the new crown in position and make any necessary adjusts for a perfect fit. The permanent crown will then be cemented firmly onto the existing tooth and refined with a clean and polish.
